News & Updates

February 4, 2009 - Tentative Make-up School Days

Please be aware that the following schedule is TENTATIVE.

  • March 16th & 17th will be FULL DAYS OF SCHOOL.

  • March 18th will be a HALF DAY, with dismissal time TBA.

If we have more days off for bad weather, etc. the schedule will be changed.

Intersession will begin Wednesday afternoon (March 18th) and continue all day through March 19th & 20th. Times for Intersession will be announced later.

January 26, 2009 - Mistake corrected!

Oops! It was brought to our attention that there was a mistake on the Finley Snapshots Page. There was a picture of the Fall Sale Winners, however it was titled the Chocolate Sale Winners. We apologize for the misunderstanding! The Chocolate Sale Winners have NOT been announced yet! Stay tuned!

January 21, 2009 - Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2009! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break and we're looking forward to the last half of this school year! We're also working on updating the webpage as often as possible! December 4, 2008 - School Happenings!

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break! Now, onto Christmas time! We've got a busy couple of weeks ahead of us. Make sure you check out our Monthly Calendar & Menu, so you can keep up to date on all of our school happenings! Happy Holidays!

November 21, 2008 - Updates!

Again, our website has been updated! On the "Special Events Photo Gallery", we've updated Preschool's page, Kindergarten's page, & Second Grade's page.

November 20, 2008 - State Gazette's School Zone

We hope all of you Finley Family and Friends got to check out the State Gazette's School Zone today! Finley had several events covered like our Thanksgiving dinner, Veteran's Day Program and our appreciation of the Humane Society! We're so proud of our school!

November 16, 2008 - ARRRR! Pirates spotted!

Students in the 4th grade at Finley Elementary School enjoyed a visit from Captain Huck (Huck Greek) and his first mate, Raven (LaMont Hall). Both classes have been reading Peter and the Starcatchers, and were interested in the authentic costumes and historic facts about pirates shared by the visitors.

November 13, 2008 - Thanksgiving Dinner

FINLEY IS THANKFUL FOR OUR WONDERFUL PARENTS! Turkey never tasted so good as it did at Finley's Thanksgiving Dinner for parents today! Mrs. Glenda Patterson, cafeteria manager, and her wonderful staff, served 244 parents turkey and all the trimmings as well as serving all the staff and students. Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their children at Finley everyday, not just on holidays! We love our parents!

November 11, 2008 - Website updated

Our website has been updated! Our "Monthly Calendar & Menu" page is updated through November and some of December. We've also added pictures to our "Special Events Photo Gallery". Check back later for more events and dates to be added!

November 10, 2008 - Finley Celebrates Veterans!

Students from Pre K - 5th grade sang praise to fifteen Veterans and their families who were honored for their military service. Students also wrote plays, poems and essays to read and perform for the occasion. Each Veteran was recognized for his/her specific service and awards received during active duty. Finley gave each Veteran a neck ribbon and medallion in thanks for their service to our country.

November 7, 2008 - FES Appreciates Animal Shelter

Finley Elementary School "PAWS" to say "THANK YOU" to the Dyersburg/Dyer Co. Humane Shelter during National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, November 2 - 8. Students wrote letters, poems, drew pictures and made a banner to let the shelter know how much they are appreciated.
